The Spectrometer with Electrostatic Analysers

The Manchester solenoid:

This instrument has been equipped with the "magnetic angle changer" (MAC), a device invented in the group of professor Frank Read at the University of Manchester. This device permits continuous coverage of scattering angles from 0° to 180°.

The Fribourg form of this device minimizes the perturbation of the gas flow in the collision region, that is, the solenoids are made as "optically transparent" as possible.
